Nerdwallet vs. Coverage Cat

NerdWallet is a personal finance company that offers a range of products and services to help consumers make informed financial decisions.

One slice of the company's business are their insurance comparison tools, that allow consumers to compare quotes and coverage options from insurance carriers. Nerdwallet’s mission is “to provide clarity for all of life's financial decisions” something that we fully support at Coverage Cat. 

Nerdwallet’s tools help consumers compare car insurance, home insurance, health insurance, and other types of coverage. If you’re willing to share your personal information and previous coverage some of the company’s tools will allow you to receive quotes from insurers.

There are shortcomings though: Nerdwallet doesn't help you pick the right upper end limits for your coverage. They do suggest you "cut coverage and rethink your deductible" to save — which is good advice for some users, but is penny wise pound foolish for others.

Also, even if you use their tools, Nerdwallet still advises you to shop around for at least three insurers.
